Ethan Cooley
Ethan Cooley is from Charlotte, North Carolina and majored in Engineering with a Computer Science minor. Ethan is interested in data science and software engineering. The Wake Engineering Department helped him cultivate this passion through the various classes that are based on different areas of engineering. Due to this exposure to most disciplines, he was able to discover his passions. Ethan’s favorite class was EGR 211: Mechanics and Materials because he found it exciting to learn about the physics behind certain mechanical processes and how materials are developed on the molecular level. During his time in the Engineering Department, Ethan conducted research under the mentorship of Dr. Kyle Luthy. For this research, he focused on the development of an aerial autonomous swarm robotic system for field deployment and atmospheric sensing. During this project, he implemented programmatic decision-making, route detection, and position tracking for multiple unmanned systems.
Ethan studied abroad at the University of Sydney in Sydney, Australia where he took classes in literature, biology, and computer science. During his sophomore year at Wake Forest, he was the secretary for Wake West Club. The club’s purpose is to connect students to alumni in the San Francisco Bay Area and help in learning about career development and opportunities. Ethan took records of all the meetings and reached out to alumni to assist in planning meetings or information sessions. While abroad in Sydney, Australia, Ethan joined the Undergraduate Engineering Society, a club that connected undergraduate engineers from around the world and encouraged members to meet people from different places and learn about their backgrounds and interests. After graduation, Ethan will be working as a Data Scientist at Premier Health in Charlotte, NC.
