Wake Forest’s BS Engineering Degree is ABET Accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission

“I am honored to publicly share that our Wake Forest University BS Engineering degree is officially ABET Accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC). We have earned the full allowable 6 years of accreditation and our accreditation is retroactive for the graduating WFU Engineering Classes of 2021 and 2022.  This is truly tremendous news, especially when considering that the founding team arrived five years ago (six weeks before students arrived) and we had no website, no curriculum, no equipment, no vision and identity.  We have come a long way and feel immensely blessed for the collaborative partnership with so many parts of Wake Forest University.  I share with you the program strengths that ABET identified.”

Program Strength

The Engineering program has attracted and retained a diverse faculty and student body. The program’s full-time permanent faculty group is composed of 70 percent women, a level rarely seen within engineering programs. The engineering student profile is equally impressive. Forty percent of the students are female and 20 percent of them have backgrounds that are underrepresented in engineering. Additionally, student interests and activities are diverse, with approximately 50 percent of the students seeking minors or a second major and 50 percent of them also participating in a study-abroad experience. Technical skills are not neglected, with approximately 50 percent of students participating in undergraduate research and 70 percent in an industry internship experience. These statistics set the program apart and portray a diverse and extremely motivated group of people practicing inclusive excellence towards producing the next generation of engineers.
