Danielle Cantoni

Danielle Cantoni is from Naperville, IL and majored in Engineering with a minor in Chemistry. Her biomedical engineering interests and overall clinical passions guided her array of extracurricular activities during her time at Wake Forest, from wet-lab research to volunteering at the hospital. As a part-time researcher, she investigated the effects of radiation when applied to a Jurkat white blood cell model and assessed cell growth and viability under the guidance of Dr. Erin Henslee from Wake Forest Engineering and Dr. Ravi Singh from Wake Forest School of Medicine. She combined her biomedical passions and engineering skill sets during the summer of 2018 while working as an intern for Charter Medical, Ltd to perform daily testing of equipment, conduct research, prepare technical papers, and participate in an equipment redesign process.

Danielle has always enjoyed coming up with new ideas and going out of her comfort zone. She shares that Wake Engineering has helped her develop the mentality that “not everything is going to be perfect the first time around– you will have constant trial and error, and you will be put in tough situations, but with motivation and help from your peers and professors, you will be able to succeed.” Her favorite Wake Engineering memory was during EGR 111 when the students would all eat lunch together during the class break – “I think this is what really molded the inaugural class to become as close and tight knit as we have,” she shares. During her time at Wake Forest, Danielle has also served as a virtual tutor for local children, shadowed in orthopedic surgery, and studied abroad in Florence, Italy. After graduation, she will working in the Neurology Department at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago as a Research Technician.
