Andrew LaCava

Andrew LaCava is from Winnetka, Illinois and is especially interested in Industrial Engineering. He feels that the Engineering Department helped “cultivate these passions by offering a breadth of exposure to an array of disciplines along the way.”  During his senior year, Andrew has been working as a member of the Simplified Exercise Apparatus for Deconditioned Patients capstone senior design team.  Andrew and his team have spent the past academic year under the guidance of Dr. Michael Gross and Dr. Sammi Yazdani (Wake Forest Engineering) designing and prototyping a simplified exercise apparatus for deconditioned patients who are confined to bedrest in early stages of recovery.  This device will allow patients to reduce muscle loss and lower rehabilitation times to improve long-term patient outcomes.

Andrew assisted with a cross-departmental E-sports Psychology project with Dr. Henslee of the Engineering Department and Dr. Sali of the Psychology Department in which he analyzed the effects of video games (various subgenres) on cognitive flexibility.

As an Industrial Engineering Intern at KKSP Precision Machining in Illinois, he also focused on process improvement for several high-volume products and identified as well as worked on the implementation of automation opportunities in the facility.

He participated in E-sports Psychology Research and is a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, as well as the Theta Chi Fraternity. Andrew has been offered a position at Bain & Company as an Associate Consultant in Atlanta and plans to begin working there after graduation.
