Andrew Rust

Andrew Rust is from New Bern, NC and has a passion for the engineering design process and solving challenging problems both inside and outside the classroom.  He believes that Wake Forest Engineering integrated coursework and diverse student body both challenged and inspired him to make a significant impact on those around him each and every day.  Andrew’s favorite course during his time in Wake Forest Engineering was Computational Modeling in Engineering where he learned the fundamentals of computational problem-solving tools for diverse engineering applications.  During his senior design course, Andrew taken the role of team manager and worked diligently with his peers to design an interactive, projector-based museum exhibit for Kaleideum Children’s Museum in Winston-Salem under the guidance of WFU Engineering Faculty, Dr. Kenny, Dr. Pierrakos, and Dr. Lowman.

Outside of the classroom, Andrew has been an active participant in the WFU community.  He is a member of the WFU Varsity Baseball Team as a right-handed pitcher and he also co-founded his own startup company, ByteSize, which focuses on improving access and quality of computer-based learning for children.  “I truly believe in the practicality and applicability of using an engineering mindset to put together holistic solutions for businesses, communities, and individuals” shared Rust.

Andrew will be pursuing an MS degree in Computer Engineering at Columbia University (Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science) after his graduation.
