Avery Jamieson
Avery Jamieson is from Spring City, PA and is passionate about bioengineering. She has spent much of her time in Wake Forest Engineering focusing on technical electives that explore the different aspects of bioengineering and the various career pathways open to those that pursue the field. Avery has spent her senior year working with peers to create a control system that automates the supervision of a bioreactor to increase its safety and efficiency while decreasing the time that physicians need to allot to patients. The Design of a Bioreactor Control System capstone team has worked under the mentorship of Dr. Carlos Kengla and Dr. Olga Pierrakos (Wake Forest Engineering) to ensure that all project goals are met in a timely manner. During the summer of her senior year, Avery currently interns at Takeda Pharmaceuticals where she works on a medical device team with a focus on gut health. In the past, she has interned with Omega Design Corporation, a mechanical engineering design company.
Avery has spent her time outside of the classroom as a math tutor at Wake Forest University and is a member of Alpha Delta Pi. She is also an executive board member of the Society of Women Engineers and has acted as a student advisor in the past. Her favorite course was a tech elective course under Dr. William Crowe where she learned to use 3D printing and modeling techniques. “Wake Engineering has taught me the importance of working with those around you” shares Jamieson.
Avery plans to pursue a master’s degree in Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge in the UK once she completes her graduation from Wake Forest Engineering.
