Daniel Watts

Daniel Watts is from Winston-Salem, NC and is graduating with an Engineering Major. Has an outstanding passion for serving others, and at Wake Forest Engineering, through the guidance of faculty and his peers he was given the tools to bring about positive change in the community, within friendships and in the workplace. Daniel’s capstone design project, Onsite Treatment of Household Greywater, led by Dr. Michael Gross and Dr. Kyana Young aims to design a small energy efficient and low maintenance wastewater system that could be implemented at the household level. In addition to his capstone design project, Daniel participated in undergraduate research under Prof. Kyle Luthy in his underwater robotics lab and helped create an underwater camera housing to prevent biofouling on the lens allowing it to stay underwater longer with the purpose monitoring coral reef health. He also worked as Water/Wastewater intern at HDR, where he worked on several aspects related to water and wastewater infrastructure, such as developing hydraulic models and water capacity studies.

Daniels’s favorite memory was digging up plants from a local garden for the construction of a wetland with his Capstone team. Alongside his time in Engineering, he also worked with the Deacon Student Police and the Office of Civic and Community Engagement as a virtual tutor as well as volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters in Winston-Salem.

Daniel will be joining HDR’s Water/Wastewater team as an Engineer in training at their Winston-Salem office.
