Reed Hedberg
Reed Hedberg is from Charlotte, NC and has been interested in researching Environmental Engineering during his time in Wake Forest Engineering. Reed is a member of the Bridge Design Project for Remote Communities under the guidance of Dr. Michael Gross and Dr. Tricia Clayton (Wake Forest Engineering). Together with Engineers in Action, he and his team have worked to design a suspended cable bridge for a community in Zombodze, Eswatini, Africa that will not wash away during the severe flooding the region experiences in the rainy season. The group hopes to complete the project by the end of the spring semester. Reed’s favorite class in Wake Forest Engineering was Environmental Engineering where he learned the fundamentals of environmental systems and explored how engineers sustain these systems and inform environmental and public health policies.
During the summer of 2021, Reed worked for Pure Energy in Austin, TX, contributing to a solar technology start-up and developing solar panel proposals for residential areas. Reed has been a member of the Wake Forest Club Baseball and Club Basketball teams and the Chi Psi Fraternity. He has also spent his time volunteering on different projects for Habitat for Humanity.
Reed has been accepted as Environmental Health and Safety intern for Midland Asphalt in Buffalo, New York. He plans to travel abroad to Australia in the fall of 2022 after completing his internship and degree in Engineering and Environmental Science.
