Ryan Welton
Ryan Welton is from Raleigh, NC and found the most enjoyment in civil engineering. He believes that Wake Forest Engineering has provided him with broader engineering opportunities by allowing him to experiment in different engineering disciplines and explore the best fit for his future career. Ryan is a member of the WFU Stormwater System Modeling and Improvement capstone senior design team under the guidance of Dr. Michael Gross and Dr. Courtney Di Vittorio (Wake Forest Engineering). Together, he and his peers have worked to design a sensor system network utilizing a computational model that can be used to detect at-risk areas on the banks of creeks to prevent erosion that may affect nearby buildings. Ryan and his team hope to complete the project by the end of the spring semester. In addition to his senior design work, Ryan has interned at Columbia Engineering and Services.
Outside of his coursework, Ryan has participated in a variety of on-campus organizations. He is a member of Call to Conversation and acts as a virtual tutor for other students. Ryan has also acted as the Chair of Theta Chi Philanthropy and the Theta Chi New Member Educator. Ryan’s favorite project was the final project for EGR-311: Control Systems and Instrumentation. “I really enjoyed this project as it gave a lot of room for creativity and allowed the students to piece together the design themselves” shared Welton.
Ryan has accepted a Civil Engineering position at Columbia Engineering and Services and plans to begin work after graduating from Wake Forest University.
