Tyric Swennie
Tyric Swennie is from Durham,NC and has a love for civil engineering. During his time in the Wake Forest Engineering program, he has participated in a number of different civil engineering technical electives that have strengthened his prowess and knowledge of the denomination. For most of his senior year, Tyric worked with other peers on designing a 116-meter-long suspended cable bridge for a developing community in Eswatini, Africa. The bridge was aimed to aid the civilians in crossing over floodplains during the rainy seasons. The group worked under the supervision of Capstone Coaches Dr. Tricia Clayton and Dr. Michael Gross. Leading up his senior year, Tyric interned for Equagen Engineering and Inspections (EEI), a civil engineering company, where he performed residential inspections, as well as reported issues and possible solutions to clients.
Tyric also spent his time outside the classroom, on the football field. For 3 years Tyric was a player on the Wake Forest Football team, earning a Big 4 Title as well as a 2018 Birmingham Bowl Victory. Tyric’s favorite memory during his Engineering career was during his tech elective taught by Dr. Lauren Lowman where he heard about the implications of water within the location of Brunson Elementary School in Winston Salem. “Wake Engineering gave me a better understanding of how important ethical decisions are along with engineering decisions for a successful engineer.”
After graduation Tyric plans to explore the working field, as he is applying to different civil engineering jobs, before continuing his education at another graduate school.
